THE LIVING END RETURN WITH NEW ALBUM, HEAR THE ANTHEMIC, STRING-DRIVEN FIRST SINGLE
The Living End have returned after a five and a half year absence, and with the first official single from their just-announced seventh album Shift they’ve well and truly chucked any lingering rockabilly influences out the window.
With a driving kick drum beat and more cellos than classic Chris Cheney guitar solos, the track is an emotive power ballad that has more in common with contemporary acts like Gang Of Youths than the band’s early days. But don’t worry, like the rest of their fist-pumping back catalogue it will probably still perfectly match the tone of the footy highlight segments it will inevitably soundtrack.
Cheney co-wrote the song with US production duo Dylan Berry and Stefan Litrownik, whose credits include everyone from One Direction and Billy Ray Cyrus to the soundtrack of, err, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. If that’s all too much to take in for more traditionalist Living End fans, the band also released a more typically punk-influenced teaser track Monkey a week ago.
The new album officially lands on May 13, and to celebrate the new album they’re hitting the road for a five date tour with support from Adelaide’s own Bad//Dreems. Tickets available via OzTix.
