Area 7
(Trademark/Zomba)
This may have been the year the Living End drew mainstream attention to their rockabilly punk, but Melbourne’s Area 7 have been stirring attention on a similar scale. They’ve secured a deal with Trademark Records and released this ska-pop tune. Recorded with Lindsay Gravina at Birdland studio, the single has all the fuzzy affection, catchy choruses and singalong energy of other Gravina-produced acts such as Spiderbait and the Living End. Also included is a cover of the Cure’s Boys Don’t Cry. sporting cheering trumpets and crunching guitars. A live version of Triple J favorite Bitter Words is ska bathed in a pop glory.
